Professor Mary-Louise McLaws

Professor of Epidemiology Healthcare Infection and Infectious Diseases Control

Mary-Louise is a clinical epidemiologist at UNSW and teaches Evidence and Infection Control. She has been a World Health Organization (WHO) Advisor to China and Malaysia during the development of national healthcare associated infection surveillance systems and a member of the Advisory group for the WHO First Global Patient Safety Challenge and Core Components of Infection Control Programs. She was appointed by the Department of Health and Aging to review the evidence basis of the Australian Infection Control guidelines for the protection of healthcare workers. Her recent research projects include a national study on antibiotic prescribing practices in Cambodia. She is an honorary advisor to the Clinical Excellence Commission and together were the 2016 recipients of the Medical Journal of Australia/MDA National Research Prize.
